    Description

1875 Indian Cent, VF, Very Fine ~ Late Die State, Sunken Obverse Die.
This is not a listed die state as far as we can tell.  It could be an intermediate die state of Poliquin variety 7 (obverse die 9, reverse die G), but we are not certain of that. The date position certainly matches, and Poliquin-9 features a cud at the 2:30 to 3:00 obverse rim.
On the example offered here, we see a faint crack from "D" of UNITED to the rim, and another crack through the tops of "TAT" of STATES, then to the rim.  OF AMERICA is weakly formed to nearly absent, and there's a relatively heavier die crack from the rim through "E" of AMERICA and into the headdress. Keeping in mind that the reverse is Very Fine, the rims full on both sides, and a full LIBERTY on the headdress, we conclude that this is a "sunken die" anomaly.  Another possible option is that it is simply a "struck through grease" filled die error.  Regardless, it is a decent looking example of this popular date.
